About This Item

This pin is based on a drawing in Album of Birds and Flowers, which was created in the Edo Period in the early 19th century by an unknown Japanese artist, possibly a skilled amateur. The style is primarily that of the Kano school, the official painters to the shogun, which was derived from Chinese painting. Images in the album include flowers, leaves, birds, butterflies and small animals such as cats and monkeys, displaying a striking combination of realism and decorative qualities.
