Pierre-Auguste Renoir was originally associated with the Impressionist movement, painting snapshots of real life, full of color and light. By the mid-1880's however, he broke with the movement and applied a more disciplined, formal technique to portraits and figure paintings, particularly of women. His subjects - children, flowers, beautiful scenes and above all, lovely women, have instant appeal, and he communicated the joy he took in painting them.

The open-air cafes of suburban Bougival, on the Seine outside Paris, were popular recreation spots for city dwellers, including the Impressionist painters. Renoir uses intense color and lush brushwork to heighten the sense of pleasure conveyed by the whirling couple who dominate the composition. The woman's face, framed by her red bonnet, is the focus of attention, both ours and her companion's.

Finely crafted wooden jigsaw puzzle, featuring numerous character-shaped "whimsy" pieces for a charming, premium puzzle experience.
