About This Item

Edgar Degas, a French artist, painted The Dance Class using oil paint on canvas that measured 33 1/2'' x 29 1/2''. The painting is in the Jeu de Paume collection in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, France. Edgar Degas created a room full of people with only two people clearly looking at each other. All of the dancers, parents, or companions are involved in their own thoughts and actions. Degas uses the repetition of color as one means of leading the eye through the picture space creating visual movement. Degas shows the beauty of the dancers and the performance.
