Riley the Museum Dog

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), is pleased to partner with the Boston Globe to publish a children’s book about Riley, the MFA’s pest-sniffing canine volunteer. Written by Devra First and illustrated by Ryan Huddle, The Adventures of Riley the Museum Dog follows Riley on a chase for Wiley, a tiny moth with a big appetite for artwork.

Riley is a Weimaraner puppy and working scent dog who has joined the MFA as our cutest volunteer. Riley will work with members of the Museum’s Conservation and Protective Services departments, providing assistance with pest detection behind the scenes. While he’s currently undergoing basic puppy training and adjusting to his new environment, he’ll soon begin to learn more specialized skills related to identifying pests that may be present in the Museum—all in an effort to better care for the Museum’s collection.
